2018 Holiday Gift Gallery Artist Information
The Firehouse’s annual holiday boutique, Holiday Gift Gallery, highlights regional artists by showcasing their work for sale to the public in a festive extension of the year-round gift shop. Over one thousand Norman shoppers visited the FAC during last year’s Holiday Gift Gallery, browsing the selection of original and unique artwork in a variety of mediums and learning more about the community of artists represented at the FAC. We hope you will be a part of this year’s festivities!
Call for Artists
The FAC is seeking seasonal items of varying price points to captivate customers who are looking for both gifts and décor. Especially popular are affordable, holiday-themed ornaments. Artwork submitted must be original, handmade, and created by the artist in the last 3 years. The 2018 Holiday Gift Gallery is open to regional artists working in a wide range of mediums; work accepted includes ceramics, photography, paintings, original prints, drawings, wood, metal, jewelry, blown glass, slumped glass, stained glass, mixed media pieces, seasonal décor, and some accessories. Items not accepted include clothing (except for hand-woven items), university themed items, food, and toiletry items.
October 15: Deadline for online submission for new artists
October 22 – 26: Artwork drop-off to the Firehouse Art Center (M – F 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM)
November 5 – 8: Pick-up for artwork not accepted for display
November 9 – December 22: Holiday Gift Gallery open to the public during the FAC’s business hours
November 16: Extended Shopping Hours on Friday evening, 6 – 8 PM
December 7: Extended Shopping Hours on Friday evening, 6 – 8 PM
January 2 – 11, 2019: Pick-up for unsold artwork

New Artist Submission Process
New artists must submit a completed digital application through the FAC’s Gift Shop & Holiday Gift Gallery Artist Application (available at normanfirehouse.submittable.com) by Monday, October 15 at midnight. This short application requires the inclusion of sample images of artwork. The FAC Gallery Committee will review all applications and sample images submitted to determine the acceptance of the artist to Holiday Gift Gallery. Artists will be informed of their acceptance status before drop-off begins on October 22. Incomplete applications or applications submitted without images will not be considered. No new artists will be considered without a completed digital application. Accepted artists will be assigned an artist number and then may proceed through the following artwork drop-off process.
All artists must bring or send the following completed forms with their artwork during the drop-off period:
All artists are responsible for delivering their work and promptly retrieving any unsold items at the end of the sale. Artists from outside of Norman may choose to ship their work to the FAC; artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the FAC and for any damage during shipment.
All artwork must be ready to hang or display. The FAC will organize and set up the Gift Gallery, process all sales for the entirety of event, and will remit sales tax to the Oklahoma Tax Commission. Artists are encouraged to replenish their inventory as items sell.
Every item must be labeled with a small white label including the following information (click for example)
1. Artist Number
2. Item Number: All items for the 2018 Holiday Gift Gallery will begin with the letter C and the number 1 (i.e. C1)
3. Item price (be sure to factor in the Firehouse’s 35% commission to the total cost)
For those artists already under contract with the Gift Shop, this is an opportune time to review work currently on display. Please rotate older works for more recent ones.
Firehouse staff will be equipped to deal with all artists and artwork coordination regarding Holiday Gift Gallery during business hours, Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
Holiday Gift Gallery Selection Process & Pick-up of Artwork Not Accepted
After the drop-off period ends at close of business on October 26, the FAC Gallery Committee will review all work submitted for adherence to Holiday Gift Gallery submission guidelines. Accepted work will be arranged for display by Firehouse staff.
Items not accepted must be picked up promptly in the above-listed time frame. The Firehouse has limited storage space.
Artist Commissions & Sales
As a part of the Firehouse’s mission of supporting high quality arts and professional artists, the organization retains a modest commission of 35% to cover staffing, building, and promotions, and the artist receives a commission of 65% of the retail price of each item. The retail price of each item must include the Firehouse’s commission.
Payment to the artist on all sales will be within 45 days after the sale, through monthly commission checks processed at the end of each month. On installment sales (not to exceed 90 days), the commission will be paid to the artist after payment in full is received by the FAC.
The Firehouse will promote the Holiday Gift Gallery, the items for sale, and the artists through emails, social media, press releases, and media interviews. Staff may photograph the artwork and use them as graphics for publicity and promotional purposes. Artists are encouraged to share social media posts and Holiday Gift Gallery information with their client bases.
