Visual Arts Education for Children and Teens
The FAC has been continually refining its children’s programming for the past decade, following the 2007 redesign of its children’s curriculum in a manner similar to nationally recognized programs of excellence. This curriculum was implemented in the Art After School and Children’s Summer Art Programs, operating under the title “Creating with the Masters.” This method of developing class programming utilizes the work of master artists to educate children about the history of the visual arts, artists, techniques, museums, self-expression, and creativity. All children’s art education programming follows the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Fine Arts: Visual Arts guidelines. Classes are structured by age groups, five to six, seven to nine, and ten to fourteen, and include a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing, ceramics, collage, and mixed media. The FAC augments this programming through a partnership with the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, which provides students with the opportunity to explore art in a formal museum setting and experience the work of master artists first-hand, while discovering the rich art resources available in their own community.

Visual Arts Education for Adults
Adult classes at the Firehouse are offered in a range of mediums, including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, printmaking, fiber, glass, and a variety of workshop opportunities. Classes are offered seven days a week, taking place throughout the day, beginning as early as 9 AM and ending as late as 10 PM.

Courses are designed for individuals ages 17 and up, and focus on developing self expression, building technical skills, art history, and master artists, with particular attention given to the individual needs of the students. Students in the FAC’s adult classes come from diverse backgrounds and careers, with skill levels varying from beginner to professional artist, that enhance each class dynamic, while stimulating creativity and the production of unique works of art.
